Road Trip-Leavenworth

It is long since time since we updated this blog with some of our traveling adventures! This fall we had the opportunity to visit a beautiful town in Washington called Leavenworth. This is a quaint Bavarian town filled with wineries, shops, restaurants, and bakeries for the walking connoisseurs. Active type people can enjoy hiking, skiing, and rafting nearby in the Wenatchee river.

We have found road trips to be the easiest type of travel with your fur kids and I comfortably enjoy the view from the backseat in my Snoozer Lookout Pet Car Seat. We had some beautiful views on the drive as we choose mid-October to travel as the leaves were changing colors.

Daddy likes to joke that every time Mommy looks at a rest stop sign that she has to stop. I don't mind though, as stretching your legs on a long car trip is always a good idea, and I always appreciate good smells. I usually travel in a comfy harness that doubles to keep me secure in my seat. This Puppia Harness and Leash are my favorite travel basics.

The trip to Leavenworth, WA is about 4 hours away for us and the drive takes you through beautiful orchards, vineyards and next to lakes and mountains. When we traveled in October the weather was perfect for some light layers and scarfs.

The town of Leavenworth is very dog friendly, and many of the hotels and inns allow dogs as well as lodging in the surrounding areas.  Bring Fido has the scoop on all the pet friendly lodging in the town of Leavenworth, WA. During our stay we choose a quaint cabin on the river about 20 minutes north of the main town through Napatoc lodge rentals.

We stayed in Stuchin cabin which is right on the bank of the river. This place was amazing and pictures won't due the decor and cozy feeling justice. The whole cabin is carefully decorated in antiques and Americana furnishings and has a full kitchen and hot tub. This place is perfect for a romantic or honeymoon getaway!

This was the amazing view from the second floor balcony outside the bedroom overlooking the river. The babbling of the river just puts you right to sleep at night.

Mom and Dad decided to skip the hot-tub at night after seeing a black bear by the road on the drive up. This really was The Great Outdoors!

The next morning we were up early to visit the Bavarian town of Leavenworth and check out all the Oktoberfest activities. The town is amazing and has no electric signs in keeping with the "old town" Bavarian feel. Most of the buildings featured hand painted signs and traditional trims. The smells were amazing too between the Sausages from the Beer gardens and all the local bakeries.

We highly recommend you make your first stop at A Paw Above pet supply store as they feature some great clothing, treats, and gear for paws. The best part is they greet you with a full list of local restaurants and eateries that are paw friendly or allow dogs on the patios. They even have Bavarian dog clothes and hats for your pup!

We would also like to give a special shout out to the wonderful restaurant we ate at on the main street called  Wok About Grill-Mongolian BBQ. This place was not listed on the dog friendly list but when they saw us standing outside they invited us right up to dine on their balcony patio that overlooked all the festivities. The food was not only reasonable but delicious and healthy! In fact, Daddy brought some take-home back to the cabin.

If you choose to go during one of the festivals such as Oktoberfest or Christmas, expect some big crowds. Make sure your fur baby is ok with the crowds and tourists before taking them down the main street as there is so much going on it is easy for them to get missed in the foot traffic or attention from the kids. Fortunately, I am great with kids and crowds, not to mention great reflexes to avoid getting stepped on. Most of the shops are dog friendly, but some of the bakeries are not due to Health rules. You will see several water bowls lining the streets as well, which is always appreciated.

If Beer and authentic Bavarian cuisine is your thing, both Der Hinterhof and Munchen Haus have outdoor and covered patio seating to welcome you and your pup. If authentic German food isn't your cup of tea then you can venture to South for modern and tasty Mexican cuisine. They also have a pet friendly area to dine in.

Finally, while visiting downtown, you must stop in the Gingerbread Factory Bakery and Cafe. They have house baked dog treats and an assortment of yummy pastries, sweets, and tasty food. If you are visiting during Christmas you can take home a Gingerbread Dog House.

Sightseeing can easily take up an entire day, so we were ready for some rest and relaxation when we drove back to the cabin. The next day we decided to venture out on a nature walk near our cabin and enjoyed the beautiful outdoors before heading back to the city.

Overall it was a great trip, and I highly recommend Leavenworth, WA as a trip for both people and paws. We may head back for Christmas which looks amazing and magical!
